Business Memoir. Typically authors are featured on memoir jackets. But they aren’t at HBR Press. This was new. And the author was not well known. The jacket needed to showcase her and her lessons learned as an Army helicopter pilot.
We featured her in uniform in front of an Apache helicopter. This required coordinating with an army base—picture jumping through the many layers and levels of government security and clearance. Then there was the arranging of photography, hair, and makeup. And the chopper. I designed a very specific comp for this shoot since I could not chopper myself in for it. It served as art direction and guidance for the photographer and the team at the army base. I then married one of a thousand photos, to custom hand lettering to ensure the human element emerged. Many balls were juggled.
Plan A worked. The shoot happened on time, on budget, and conveyed exactly what I wanted it to. Happy author. Striking jacket. Sales to come.
